Abstract

In an era of rapid technological advancements and evolving societal needs, understanding the complexities of the European Union (EU) is crucial for informed and engaged students today, and professionals tomorrow. The present paper explores the potential of simulation-based learning to enhance education about the EU, moving beyond traditional rote memorization towards experiential learning that fosters critical thinking, collaboration, and a deeper understanding of the EU's multifaceted role in global affairs, with a particular focus on Higher Education (HE). By incorporating real-world scenarios, interactive exercises, and digital tools, EU simulation-based learning experiences can bridge the gap between theory and practice, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of the EU landscape. This paper examines the pedagogical benefits of simulation-based learning, explores innovative approaches to simulation design, and discusses the potential of simulations to foster civic engagement, social responsibility, and a commitment to addressing global challenges within the EU framework. Moreover, to provide readily applicable resources for educators, the author offers two detailed simulation scenarios focused on critical aspects of the EU, along with practical tips for teachers and facilitators to effectively implement these simulations in diverse educational settings.
